Inclusive Energy Transitions: Unlocking the Power of Women & Youth

11 April 2025

The inclusion of women and youth is essential to building sustainable economic systems that simultaneously reduce poverty and inequality

The latest report and blog from the Clean Energy for Development programme, which IDS provides cohort support for, explores how inclusive research and policy can unlock the potential of women and young people in clean energy innovation 🌎

Grounded in examples from research by African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS) , Développement international Desjardins (DID) and the Economic Research Forum , the latest Research for Policy and Practice paper calls for people-centred policies that champion equity, sustainability and local ownership.

Drawing from an insightful event held at this years’ 69th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in New York, the latest blog from the programme highlights how we can ensure that no one is left behind in the transition to clean energy.

Weaving together diverse perspectives from Kenya, the Middle-East and Senegal, these outputs transcend regional boundaries while acknowledging unique local challenges that can be addressed

By creating evidence-based approaches, formed in collaborative environments with opportunities for women and youth, we can start to address a number of pressing global challenges – from climate change to gender equality, youth unemployment and energy access.
